Camp Wildcat is a University of Arizona student run non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of Tucson's youth by providing cost-free weekend camps to portray college as an attainable goal for everyone!
On April 15 - 17, 40 Camp Wildcat volunteers brought over 60 middle school students from the Academy of Mathematics and Science and the Math and Science Success Academy schools to the U of A campus. AzRISE research fellows Carolyn Swanborg and Adria Brooks led activities all Saturday morning for both the Camp Wildcat participants and volunteers.
The students learned about solar hot spots and flares, passive solar water heating, and the effects of shading on photovoltaic cells.
All participants walked away from the activities with a better understanding of how they themselves can study solar energy upon attending college.
