New UA Institute to Develop Solar Energy Solutions

The Arizona Research Institute for Solar Energy is one step closer!
►The Arizona Board of Regents has approved funding requests from the University of Arizona, including almost $10 million, part of which would fund the newly formed Arizona Research Institute for Solar Energy. The remaining hurdle is approval by the Arizona State Legislature.

►The Arizona Solar Electric Roadmap Study commissioned by Governor Napolitano recommended the establishment of a “Solar Center of Excellence,” and Congresswoman Giffords’ recent Solar Energy in Southern Arizona report suggested that such an institution would help further almost every aspect of solar energy in Arizona. In the Spring of this year, several academic departments at the University of Arizona signed on to a proposal which was endorsed by President Robert Shelton and submitted to the Board of Regents.
