Matt Gindlesparger grabbed the new right angle drill and had the look as if Christmas came in July.
It’s a piece of machinery that will help assemble, disassemble and re-assemble the 800-square-foot, energy-efficient home being constructed by the University of Arizona Solar Decathlon Team this summer. The UASDT’s home will be in an international competition in early October in Washington, D.C.
“When I was at Home Depot I got what is like an electrical tool bag,’’ said Gindlesparger, “and that will help when we’re on site. We’ll need them when on site and working. We can’t take this entire shop with us. We’re building our mobile work trailer.’’
The drill is a huge addition to the process and progress of getting the house built. It was one of the many additions for the home this week. The team received “a lot of steel’’ for the home’s decking and got its solar hot water equipment (tank, pump, etc.) sent in from Caleffi Solar. Thanks a ton!
“That was huge, real huge,’’ said UASDT’s Michael Rageth.
Additionally, Gindlesparger said the team is “really close to buttoning up our electrical stuff which is a nice place to be.’’
He added that the interior walls have been skinned and the roofing has been done. More materials are expected in next week, including glass for the exterior of the south wall.
